Write without friction

Open the editor and the page disappears. There is a title, a blank line, and a blinking cursor. Select any text to make it bold or italic, turn a line into a heading, or drop in an image. Everything else gets out of the way.

Good writing is rewriting. Good tools make the rewriting feel like thinking, not fighting.

Read deeply

Stories here are set in a typeface built for long reading, with a measure that keeps your eyes from getting lost. A thin line at the top of the page tracks how far you've come. When something moves you, clap for it — up to fifty times — and the writer will feel it.

A few things worth trying:

• Follow writers whose thinking you want more of.
• Leave a response — the best conversations start in the margins.
